Cardiac Procedures - Exercise Stress Tests, Holter and Cardiac Event Monitoring

Your physician may refer you for a diagnostic cardiac test to help determine the best course of treatment for you. Some of these tests can be completed in the clinic during a scheduled appointment. More extensive tests may be completed at the hospital. If your physician refers you for a cardiac test, our staff will be able to assist you through the process of scheduling an appointment and will give you the appropriate information for the test period. Just call our Robbinsdale office and ask for the cardiac procedures nurse, and she will be happy to assist you with all your questions.

Holter Monitor:

If your physician orders a Holter monitor test for you, we will schedule an appointment for you at our Robbinsdale office. Our cardiac procedures nurse will attach electrodes to your chest which monitor your heart rate and rhythm. You will be asked to keep a diary of your activities and symptoms while wearing the monitor. After 24 to 48 hours, you can return to the clinic, and we will remove the monitor and send the recording to a cardiac monitoring company. The company will send a report to an internist at North Clinic for interpretation and we will notify you of the results within a few days.

Cardiac Event Monitor:

Cardiac Event monitors are scheduled at our Robbinsdale office with our cardiac procedures nurse. This event monitor is similar to a Holter monitor, but the recording of your heart rhythm is performed over a period of approximately 2 - 4 weeks. The nurse will attach electrodes to your chest and will teach you how to replace the electrodes as necessary. She will teach you how to record your heart rate and rhythm whenever you are experiencing symptoms of chest pains or other cardiac events and/or symptoms. She will instruct you how to transmit these recordings over the telephone to the cardiac monitoring company. One of our internal medicine physicians will interpret the readings and will advise you of the results within a few days.
